Meet Vlad Nicolescu.
He is currently studying Biochemistry and Cell Biology at Jacobs University. He will graduate this year. He likes to experiment with art in digital ways.
“…I used to do photo editing back in high school, but nothing too complicated. However, this winter, I decided to get some illustration programs and just started experimenting with them and discovered I really liked it. And somehow, I could just spend hours on it, doing random things”.
When we asked what his favorite and least favorite thing about digital art is he told us:
“Honestly, my favorite thing is the fact that whatever you can think of, you can turn it into reality. Without having years and years of training, which you would need to draw for example. I have lots of ideas but many times when I try drawing them, I actually can’t do it. I don’t have the skill. But with digital art, you can find ways to make what you’re thinking of happen on screen. And that’s really cool because that gives you so much freedom.”
“My least favorite thing about digital art is that it lacks some sort of a certain quality that drawings and paintings have… the imperfection or tones or lines. Of course you can emulate these things in illustrator or other programs if you have the knowledge, but it will never reach the same level of hand drawings or paintings. I guess that would be the downside of going digital!”
